Gamified Instagram DMs, explosive growth

The Beaches started teasing drops via Instagram DMs and rewarding fans who signed up on Laylo with early access to presales, exclusive merch, and giveaway entries.

The strategy worked. One campaign alone tripled their list in 30 days. Fans eagerly opted in through Laylo, and the feedback loop of hype and exclusivity turned passive followers into active superfans.

The Beaches manager Laurie Lee recently shared on a podcast about how she gamified growth via Laylo's Instagram integration:

“I love my Laylo… Laylo was really fun because when someone replies to a story, that’s when the sign up comes in and it became a game. I started gamifying [Instagram DMs]… in one month, The Beaches went from 1,500 emails to 6,000 emails through presales, merch drops, and giveaways. And I was like, wait I think there's something here… And then every time we released a record and a single, we were able to message those fans.”

The drops

With their list booming, The Beaches ran a merch drop directly through Laylo, promoting it via Instagram DMs and Laylo’s built-in fan messaging.

Click-through rates hit 195%, with superfans checking back multiple times to grab their item.

The band also saw success in increasing streams through Laylo pre-saves. Laurie Lee explains:

“I stared at Spotify for Artists and compared. This is the EP where we solely relied on playlisting, this is the EP that we did where we got to message 6,000 fans… the listeners might be lower, but the streams are double and the saves are triple.”

The band also ran a superfan presale code ahead of tour announcements, giving fans who purchased merch and/or opted in to 3+ Laylo drops priority. That campaign delivered a 1.18× click-through rate to the ticketing site, signaling strong purchase intent from Laylo’s high-intent segments.

What’s next for The Beaches

With a new album on the way, The Beaches are planning listening parties powered by Laylo, giving fans first access and continuing to build momentum ahead of release. The band is also actively promoting a presave for their upcoming single using Laylo’s integration with Spotify.
